Black History Month: Mary Eliza Mahoney (1845–1926)
Mary Eliza Mahoney (May 7, 1845 – January 4, 1926): Mahoney was the first Black professionally licensed nurse in the United States, graduating from the New England Hospital for Women and Children in 1879. She broke racial barriers in healthcare, co-founded the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses, and was a pioneer and advocate for equality.

Nurse Kiesha was inspired by her
observations of the need to address
the lack of professionalism in the workplace.
There was a lack of care and value for the individuals served. Colleges may teach nursing skills. However, no one taught new-to-practice nurses and entry-level certified
workers how to be professional
in the workplace. Thus,
Healthcare Pathways LLC was born!
Previously, Kiesha held roles such as Clinical Operations Manager, Program Manager, and Senior Clinical Training Specialist. She holds an MBA, MDE in Distance Education and E-Learning from the University of Maryland Global Campus, and a BSN from Notre Dame of Maryland University. Nurse Kiesha is also Phi Kappa Phi inductee (2018).
After devoting her work full-time to Healthcare Pathways LLC, Kiesha later founded Healthcare Pathways Supportive Services Inc., an agency that provides support services to individuals in developmental disability communities (2026).

Pioneer of the company's certified medication technician (CMT) program. As an original team member of Healthcare Pathways, Angela brings with her 43 years of experience. She is a certified BLS instructor and delegating nurse consultant.
In her previous role, she was the administrator responsible for the everyday business operations of an Assisted Living Facility. Her clinical experience includes medical/surgical, oncology, ICU, emergency room, OB/GYN, pediatric, and home health nursing. Over the years, she has mentored many new-to-practice nurses.
Nurse Lewis is a recipient of the
Home Healthcare & Hospice Nurse of the Year award for Maryland (2012). She is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Nursing and a Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority member.
